The top of the sky: the meridian where this planet stood highest at the minute you were born. It is the angle of the public record, and it governs work, standing, and the thing a person ends up known for, which is not always the thing they set out to do.
A Midheaven line is a meridian. It runs pole to pole at a single longitude, which is why it draws straight while the horizon lines curve.
The Midheaven is where a chart faces the public, and Mercury there makes that a verbal relationship. Teaching, writing, broking, reporting and analysis all sit comfortably under this line. It rewards speed and volume more readily than it rewards depth, which is worth knowing before choosing it: the reputation that forms is one of quickness, and quickness is easy to be admired for and easy to be underestimated for.

It is not an answer about wealth, and treating it as one is the standard mistake, because visibility of this kind converts into money only when something else is also true.

The distances are measured. Each is the shortest great-circle distance from a real settlement to the exact curve of the line, computed against a committed public-domain gazetteer by the same engine that measures a paying customer's own.
The interpretation is a different kind of thing and we would rather say so than blur it. It is craft, written by hand in the tradition locational astrologers have refined since the nineteen seventies, and it describes what a place tends to support and to demand. It is not a prediction, and no line on any map decides what happens to a person.
