The Angle

What a Descendant line is.

The western horizon: where this planet was sinking out of sight as you were born. It is the Ascendant's opposite point and the angle of the other party, governing partners, rivals and counterparts, and whatever reaches a life through other people rather than through effort.

A Descendant line is a curve, not a stripe. The longitude where a planet sets shifts with latitude, and it shifts hardest near the latitudes where that planet stops setting at all.

Why Jupiter on this angle in particular.

The Descendant is the angle of the other party, and Jupiter there is the traditional line of the useful benefactor. Mentors, patrons, foreign partners and marriages that widen a world all belong to it. The arithmetic deserves naming honestly: a relationship that expands your options is also one you become invested in keeping, and generosity is not the same thing as alignment.

The Interpretation

What this line tends to support.

Our own entry for Jupiter Descendant, quoted exactly as the readings use it.

The people who arrive here are larger than the ones you are used to: more generous, better travelled, further along, often from somewhere else entirely. Partnership becomes an education, and mentors turn up wearing the clothes of lovers and business partners.

  • Meaning

What to watch for.

It is tempting to let someone bigger do the growing on your behalf. Pedestals go up quickly in this air, and a relationship kept for what it provides slowly becomes a position rather than a bond.

Is this the line you are looking for?

The line to weigh when a decision depends on meeting the right person: a backer, a mentor, a market. It reads well for a move made to be near a scene. Its blind spot is dependence, because the relationships it describes are the ones that make your options bigger, and options somebody gave you are harder to walk away from.

Computed

Where this line actually runs.

A line meaning is easy to write and hard to check, so here is this one on three real charts. Cast any of them in software you trust and the lines should land where we say they do. The method, and what we do not claim, is here.

How This Page Was Made

Which parts are measured, and which are craft.

The distances are measured. Each is the shortest great-circle distance from a real settlement to the exact curve of the line, computed against a committed public-domain gazetteer by the same engine that measures a paying customer's own.

The interpretation is a different kind of thing and we would rather say so than blur it. It is craft, written by hand in the tradition locational astrologers have refined since the nineteen seventies, and it describes what a place tends to support and to demand. It is not a prediction, and no line on any map decides what happens to a person.
